I forgot to suggest Gunnerkrigg Court again. I know you refused to read it more than once already, but you should try from the middle first instead of first page, as the quality in artwork is like 110 kilometers apart between the first page and last page. The printed edition have the first chapters redrawn in better quality, so go for that if you start to want to read it but the bad art is putting you off.
