I'm just going to give recs manga wise:

Nurarihyon no mago. main char with awesome hair? check. awesome monsters from old Jap myths? check. As long as you get past the first 2 vol of introduction drivel its just so fun. The author seemed to have found direction after that. Oh and the art is <3 (one of the newer Shonen Jump series. 137 ch)

Gamaran
So much love for the pacing and art! Not terribly plotty but its hinting at something. (easy to catch up too, short action-y chapters. 77 so far)

Karakte Shokoushi Kohinata Minoru
I dunno why its not being scanned and translated fast enough yet. Seriously. Its beautiful and funny with a great cast of chars. Sadly only one group is working on it with only 7 volumes released even if they're at vol 40+ in Jp. At least this group updates regularly.

And now i have to go work soon so here's the ones without my bad and not helpful summary.

Mx0 (in national lib)
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
Kekkaishi (in national lib up to vol 10)
Say hello to Black Jack (its also in the national library. whole thing is only 12 vol)
Historie
Vinland Saga
Bakuman
Berserk (omg his teeth are so hot and up to 31 vol in nat lib)

Anime:
GINTAMA
Ergo Proxy ( I watched this like 6 times)
Mononoke (not the Gibili film. its just a work of art)
Youjou-han shinwa takei (another work of art)

ANYWAYS we need to meet and I need to bring my storage.

If you wanna read manga you should try Mushishi if you haven't already. The anime is good too. It also has a live action movie. The best is the anime apparently, because the story is full of colours (so manga would have trouble to create the ambiance, like when a guy is amazed by a rainbow-like swam of mushi a bunch of black dots are not going to convey the beauty well), and the movie got a bad writer or something. But the manga is good too, I like the storytelling and how the artist did the strokes of pen.

And Tatami Galaxy/Youjou-han shinwa takei is a must watch if you want art quality anime.

Oh, anime-wise, there's also House of Five Leaves. It's like an asian TV series set in romantic samurai time in anime format. The music is awesome. The art is also pretty nice and slightly different from the mainstream anime style.

One more manga suggestion: the absolutely non-serious series "Banana no Nana", or "Nana of Banana". Yeah for TV Tropes's random button.
